Up here, near San Filippo and San Michele, there has always been a shop. Its
roots go back at least to the eighties, maybe further.
It was the place everyone passed through: kids had a fresh panino filled
on their way to school, pizza came straight out of the oven, and those
living in the two quarters did their shopping here instead of going all the way down into town.
For older people especially, it was a blessing.
Then the shop closed. Giusi reopened it, and gave the people who live up here
something many had been waiting for: groceries just a few steps from home.
Today there’s more. Outside there are tables and chairs, and you can stop for a while:
a filled panino, a rustico, a calzone, a focaccia, something to drink
by day and in the evening. There are people in front of the door again — some standing and
chatting, some sitting and eating.
That’s why a visit to Giusi is never just shopping. Best to come with a
little time to spare: here it flies.
