In the heart of the Rabatana, Tursi’s old quarter, a restored 17th-century palazzo stands at the foot of the castle. Inside, just a few rooms: stone vaults, wrought-iron beds, lace curtains and handmade fabrics. From the double room under the brick vault to the triple with its fireplace, the light of the old village drifts gently in.
Above all, though, it’s a table. Lucanian cuisine told through tasting menus, following the seasons of the land, with every ingredient sought out one by one: peperone crusco from Senise, Lucanian black piglet, flours from ancient grains that become frizzuli and rascatelli pasta, pistachios from Stigliano, oranges from Tursi.
From the terrace you can see the old village, the church and the calanchi. Matera is just a stone’s throw away.
The Palazzo is recommended by Gambero Rosso and Lonely Planet, and in 2021 it received Restaurant Guru’s “Best Restaurant” award.
