I came to Tursi from England in 2007, after a life spent among kitchens and restaurants: first a restaurant in the nineties, then a catering business. I had bought the Stacc as a holiday home, and at some point I realised I simply wanted to be here. I sold everything and stayed.
The Orangery is a small collection of restored apartments in the Rabatana and in the centre of Tursi. I did them up one by one, with my French grandparents’ furniture, antique tubs and stone vaults. From the windows you can see the 14th-century Convent of San Francesco.
What you eat is what the season brings: wild asparagus, rocket, artichokes, broad beans, cherries, apricots, citrus fruit.
Life here is slow, and that slowness is exactly why it feels so good to be here.

From the balcony you can see far. On the big terrace there’s a table for eating outdoors, the brazier, the barbecue and the citrus plants — bergamot, oranges, figs — under a jasmine pergola.

The Cedro

The newest one: on the ground floor, below the Mandarin, in the heart of the Rabatana. Like all my apartments, it’s a studio.
The bed faces the 14th-century Convent of San Francesco, and it’s the first thing you see in the morning. The kitchen has a hob, fridge and washing machine. The bathroom is lovely and the shower is spacious.
Outside is the private terrace, and that’s where the antique tub is: cool water in the afternoon, big enough for two. Under the umbrella it’s lovely for an aperitivo, or for watching the stars.

The Stacc
2 guests · from €100 a night
I bought the Stacc almost twenty years ago, and it’s the reason I fell in love with Tursi. It changed my life: I came to live here.
It’s in an old palazzo: huge beams, stone walls, a little balcony and an open fireplace. I furnished it with my French grandparents’ furniture. The bathroom is clad in Massa Carrara marble. The kitchen is big enough for a sofa by the fire; then there’s another sitting area, and the bedroom looking onto the balcony.
It’s heated by the pellet stove and two radiators, so it’s warm in winter. It’s the closest to the town centre: you can walk to the shops and bars, so it works fine without a car.
I also rent it for longer periods: it suits writers, digital nomads and anyone who truly wants to try life in a village in the South.
- For two people
- Old palazzo with beams and stone walls
- Open fireplace
- Small balcony
- Equipped kitchen with washing machine
- Carrara marble bathroom
- Double bed
- Pellet stove and radiators
- Walking distance to shops and bars
